REASONS TO REQUEST VISITATIONS
For PATIENTS:
I have been both a healthcare professional and also a patient, and know it can be scary when you’re away from family, worried about your health, afraid of treatment or test procedures, or facing surgery. Amidst the hustle and bustle of the healthcare environment it can become easy to sometimes wonder if anyone knows what your feeling–or even cares. Sometimes you may just feel too afraid or embarrassed to let someone know about your fears or worries.
When away from the familiarity of home and family–especially for a prolonged period, it can be lonely for some and even scary for others. Sometimes just a friendly visit can be so meaningful. Sometimes family members can be worried or anxious about loved ones receiving treatment or Hospice services.
For STAFF/EMPLOYEES:
It is not uncommon for HEALTHCARE STAFF to experience stress as they offer heartfelt care to their patients–especially in times of trauma or loss of their patients. As Director of Social Wellness Support Services and of Employee Assistance for some 3,000 employees I have many years of experience providing support–sometimes in conjunction with chaplaincy staff, to healthcare staff, so they are most welcome to request visitations for themselves as well as their patients.
